Joseph James Hoplamazian, Jr., 69, of Glen Mills, PA, passed away on July 19, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Sona (nee Sudjian), loving father of Julie (Jeremy Kerr) and Gregory (Debbie), loving grandfather of Owen and Jase, dear brother of Patricia Pogharian (Samuel) and Lucille Mikaelian (Jerry) and a beloved uncle, brother-in-law, nephew and cousin to his large extended family that he cared for so deeply.

Born in Philadelphia on March 15, 1948, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Hoplamazian.  Joe attended Marple Newtown High School and graduated from Rutgers University in 1970 with a degree in horticulture.  He immediately joined his father in running the family business, Wedgewood Gardens Greenhouses and Garden Center (which recently celebrated its 50th year!)  Joe loved his job and it showed.  He put his heart and soul into Wedgewood, and his hard work and passion enabled him to grow the business from a small range of 7 greenhouses on 4 acres to a larger operation of 37 greenhouses on 8 acres. Along the way, he established longtime relationships with his employees, customers and vendors.

Joe was also very active in the Philadelphia Armenian Community.  Whether he was serving on the Endowment Fund committee at St. Sahag & St. Mesrob Church, making waffle breakfast at St. Mark’s Church or serving on the Board of Directors of the Armenian Sisters Academy, his involvement in the community was far-reaching.

He took great pride in his two children and their accomplishments, and more recently loved watching his two grandsons grow and blossom.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, July 23 from 6:30-9:00 p.m., and again Monday, July 24 from 10:00-11:00 a.m.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 24.  Viewing and funeral services will be at St. Sahag & St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 630 Clothier Road, Wynnewood, PA.  Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Armenian Sisters Academy, Radnor, PA, St. Sahag & St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, Wynnewood, PA, or St. Marks Armenian Catholic Church, Wynnewood, PA.
