Antonios O. Zacharatos

Antonios O. Zacharatos, age 76, of Broomall Pennsylvania, passed away with his family
at his side on September 19, 2018. Tony, as his friends knew him, was born in
Kefallonia, Greece to Omiros and Nikoletta (Michalatou) Zacharatos. He was the
youngest of six children. At the time of his birth, WWII was raging and times were
difficult, but his home was filled with love and compassion.
In October of 1969, he married the love of his life, Niki Gonata, in Kefallonia. Shortly
after, he returned with his wife to the United States to start their family.
Tony worked for the Country Squire Diner, and Spohrer’s Bakery for many years. Then
in 1980, he and his brother bought and managed the Avenue Restaurant in Philadelphia.
After retiring from the restaurant, he had a desire to keep busy, and continued to cook
and bake at the Country Squire Diner.
Tony enjoyed cooking and baking, but more than anything, he loved his family.
Everything he strived for in life was always for his family.
Antonios was preceded in death by his parents, Omiros and Nikoletta, and his sisters,
Sotiria, Marianthi, and Paraskevi. He is survived by his wife, Niki, his four sons, Omiros,
Nicholaos (Carlen), Robert (Stephanie), Jerry (Justine), his grandchildren, Antonios,
Jason, Sophia, Anthony, Alexander, Leonidas, Niki, his sister Polixene, his brother Stelios,
several cousins, and many nephews and nieces.
The viewing and funeral service will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church
(229 Powell Ln, Upper Darby, PA 19082) on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. The viewing
will begin at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church of
Upper Darby, or to the Church of the Sotira (Savior) in Ferentinata, Kefallonia, Greece.
We send our gratitude and love to all who have kept Tony in their hearts and prayers.
Antonios lives on in our memories and in our hearts. We love you Dad, thank you for
always being there for us.
