It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Agamemnon Papadopoulos, 94, of Upper Darby, peacefully on February 12th. Born on July 15th 1930, and beloved by family and friends, Jimmy as he was referred to by his friends, will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, passion for playing the stock market and attending church services. Jimmy will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was born in Kato Porroia Greece and came to the United States in 1951with only the clothes on his back. He worked with his uncle as a dishwasher in Philadelphia until he was assigned to the Army during the Korean War where he served for 2 years. He met his wife of 62 years, Anastasia, in Wilmington, DE through a mutual friend and were married February 2nd 1963. Jimmy later worked as a cook for over 50 years. He went back to Greece frequently to visit family and friends. During his visits, he helped build himself a modest home in his childhood village. This allowed him to spend many wonderful summers with Anastasia in his home country. He loved spending time with his 5 grandchildren and talking about stocks, politics and sports. Jimmy was a huge Phillies and Eagles fan. We would often get calls asking “what channel is the game on?” If he wasn’t watching sports, he would be watching the Greek channel, Antenna TV or the stock channel.
Jimmy was a devoted husband, caring brother and loving father and papou. He is survived by his loving wife Anastasia, his brother Nick, daughters Christine (Bob), Cathy (Eamon), and 5 grandchildren Connor, Shawn, Madison, Colin and Brian.
