Alice Chinian Hovsepian, 94 years old, passed away February 24, 2024 at Daylesford Crossing Assisted Living, Paoli, PA.
Alice was born April 8, 1929, and was the loving daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Papazian) Chinian in Newtown, MA. She was predeceased by her sister Ojenie “Ginny” Alyanakian and brother-in-law, Charles, and brothers Setrak Chinian and Sarkis Chinian, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Vickie and Meran Elanjian.
In 1960, Alice married Jack (Hagop) Hovsepian and moved to Drexel Hill then later to Willow Grove. Alice and Jack were devoted parents to their only child, Christopher, who sadly passed away in 1982. She was predeceased by her loving husband in 2014.
Alice graduated from Lesley Teachers College, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1952 and attended Radcliffe College while pursuing a Master’s Degree. She taught 2nd grade in Newton, MA before moving to Philadelphia.
Alice was a preschool teacher at the Meadowbrook School for over 30 years and dutifully served on its Board of Directors for several years. She was loved by her colleagues and many students who she taught over the years.
Alice was a loving Aunt to Chip Alyanakian and his wife Sally, Pete Alyanakian, Lynn “Gigi” Lowrey (and her late husband, Joe), Diane Paretchan (Robert), Nancy English (Edmond), Sarkis Chinian (Mary), Carolyn Simonelli (Mark), and Laura Gately (Shawn). She is survived by many great nieces and nephews, as well as several great-great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St Gregory Armenia Apostolic Church, 8701 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Viewing 10:00-11:00 a.m., Funeral at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler, PA.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church, 8701 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19128 or to the Christopher J. Hovsepian Scholarship Fund at Germantown Academy, 340 Morris Road, Fort Washington, PA 19034
