Anna Skylakon Obituary

Annastasia “Anna” G. (nee Genovezos) Skylakon passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born and raised in Norristown, Pennsylvania and after meeting the love of her life through the church choir, the late Alexander Skylakon, moved to Philadelphia to start her married life in 1951. She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Necolitsa Genovenzos, brother, Nicholas and son’s John and Peter Skylakon. She is survived by her daughter, Alexis (nee Skylakon) Witt and her spouse, Roger Witt. She was a loving grandmother to Melissa, Christopher, the late Alexandra, Nicole, Chloe, Melanie, and Stephen. She was also blessed with four great grandchildren, Harper, Liam, Cole and Alexa.

In Anna’s earlier years of marriage, she moved to South Carolina to be with her husband as he served our country as a United States Marine during the Korean conflict. During this time, she was a government employee on a military base as a secretary in the dispensary. Once moving back to the Philadelphia area, she began to raise her family and eventually returned to the work force as a bookkeeper and ultimately an office manager until her retirement in 1996.

More importantly, Anna’s devotion to her faith led her to dedicating many years to help establish a Greek Orthodox church community through the relocation of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church from South Philadelphia to Elkins Park, in the 1960s, as well as St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church of Jeffersonville, Pennsylvania in the 1990’s. She embraced many aspects of church life as a leader of the community, Sunday school teacher, member of the church choir and parish secretary even into her 80’s. She was bestowed the medal of St. Paul for her faithful dedication to the church.

Funeral service will be held at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church of Jeffersonville, Pennsylvania on Monday, October 23, 2023. Viewing 10 am to 11 am and Funeral beginning at 11 am.  Her interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the church in Anna’s name.
