Arcondia Lacas (Sosangelis), 92, of Haverford, Pennsylvania, died on November 18, 2023. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 13, 1931, to Sotirios and Eleni (Doucas) Sosangelis in her family’s apartment above their grocery store in the Italian Market in Philadelphia. Arcondia graduated from the Friends Central School before attending Beaver College.
Arcondia met her husband, Constantine Lacas, through his sister and her dear friend, Clara. She wrote him letters when he was stationed in Italy during World War II, but their love affair truly started when he returned home and found her sitting at their kitchen table and was swept off his feet by her beauty. They were married on September 10, 1950, and truly taught everyone around them what it means to love and be loved. They raised three daughters while Arcondia was an avid member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Saint Luke Greek Orthodox Church in Broomall, PA, and served as a member of the Philoptochos Society, a member of the National Philoptochos Board, and a National Committee Member for the Clergyi-Laity Bi-Centennial conference. She was the ideal host, full of life, and the perfect mix of class, strength, and beauty.
Acrondia is preceded in death by her husband Constantine George Lacas and her brothers Constantine and Charles Sosangelis. She is survived by her three daughters Pauline Vastardis Smith (David), Ellena Vaganos (Nicholas), and Georgia Vlahos (Michael), and 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
The viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM with the funeral to follow directly after starting at 10:00 AM at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church located at 35 North Malin Road, Broomall, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church – For Those in Need fund.
