Arpena “Penny” Hajatian passed away on March 6, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Hamiak “Mike” Hajatian, loving mother to Michael (Lynn) and Jeffrey (Shirley); loving grandmother to Stephanie Vartanian (Harry), Alexis Topakbashian (Alex), Erika Torosian (Michael), and Michael Hajatian (Ani) and great-grandmother to Jacob, Jemma, Joseph, Franklin, Nadya, Tomas, Tula, Sevan, and Sophene. She was predeceased by her brother Robert and her favorite uncle, Pilag. She is also survived by her sister Hosmig “Mickey” Sherian and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Penny was born on September 19, 1926, in Camden, NJ to Vahan and Arax Damghajian, Armenian immigrants and survivors of the Armenian Genocide. She was the older sister to Robert and Mickey and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1944.
She married Mike on October 19, 1947, at Holy Trinity Armenian Church in Philadelphia. Mike and Penny moved to the Mayfair section of Northeast Philadelphia in 1950, where they raised their two sons, Michael and Jeffrey. In late 1966 they moved to their long-time residence in Bethayres, where Penny resided until the last five years when she moved to Ambler.
Family and friends are invited to her calling hour at 10am and funeral at 11am on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 101 Ashmead Rd, Cheltenham, Pa. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made to Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church at http://holytrinity-pa.org/donation.
