Constantinos "Gus" Gianakopoulos Obituary

We regretfully announce the passing of Constantinos “Gus” Gianakopoulos, age 77, who peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Agios Ioannis, Monemvasia Greece on February 2, 1945. He immigrated to the United States as a young boy and grew up in Upper Darby, PA with his father (the late) Stavros and mother (the late) Anastasia Gianakopoulos, brother Athanasios and sister Sophia Hionis.

As a young adult, he served in the Army until November 1971. He then began his career in the restaurant business at The Athens Restaurant in Wildwood, NJ. Here he met his beloved wife of 51 years Rena Gianakopoulos. They and the Gianakopoulos family then opened The Aquarius Restaurant in Upper Darby, PA where he was adorned the nickname “Aquarius” by close friends which lasted throughout his life. After Gus and Rena’s marriage the family went on to open and operate The Olympic Restaurant in Wildwood, NJ for more than 20 years. They later opened Hot Spot Pizza in Southwest Philadelphia which continues to thrive today.

Gus had a heart of gold. He was a hard worker and instilled excellent ethics in of all his children. He was more than just a provider to his family he was a great role model.

Loving father of Steve (Lisa), Nick (Katie), Bill (Kerri) Gianakopoulos and Anastasia (Zachary) Pierce. Proud and wonderful papou of 11 engonia: Nikolas, Connor, Stephen; Dean, Evan, Cory; Katerina, Eleni, Eirini; Anthony, and Alexandra. Dear uncle, cousin, and friend of many who will miss him immensely.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 30 E Forge Rd, Media, PA 19063, with funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Edgewood Memorial Park following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Media, PA. https://account.venmo.com/u/StGeorgeMedia
