Daniel Takoushian Obituary

Daniel Takoushian, 88, died peacefully with his family at his side on August 16th in Palm Harbor, Florida, where he and his loving wife of 63 years, Norma, resided for the last ten years after relocating from Glen Mills, PA.  Dan was a U.S. Navy veteran, supporting his country during the Berlin Crisis call-up of the anti-submarine warships.  After graduating from Thaddeus Stevens Trade School, Dan embarked on a career as a printer.  He had his own print shop with his brother, Manuel, and later worked at and retired from Elwyn Institute.  Dan had entrepreneurial spirit, including having his own silk screen printing business.

A very talented self-taught artist, Dan painted watercolors, oils, and mixed media, as well as sculpting in alabaster stone.  He was invited into juried shows and galleries, received various awards, and was often commissioned.  His art curated the beauty of nature, often featuring animals—particularly birds and fish. Dan always put his family first and had great interest in his Armenian heritage and culture. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, time spent with friends in Florida, fishing, and sports—especially when on the sidelines of his sons' and grandchildren's games.

Daniel is survived by his wife Norma (née Mangigian), his sons Daniel (Kathy) and Steven (Jamie) Takoushian and grandchildren Daniel Takoushian (Erin), Tara Takoushian, Madison Takoushian Humpa (Eric), Eric Takoushian M.D., and Alexis Takoushian.

A visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 at St. Gregory the Illuminator Church in Roxborough on Monday, August 26th followed by a Funeral Ceremony at 11:00 and burial at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Church or St. Gregory Armenian Church.
