Dr. George Maalouf (1956 – 2024)
George Maalouf passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2024. A beloved husband, son, father, brother and cousin, George will be remembered for his love of his wife, his family, his profession, his church and his community. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 7, 1956, to Antoun and Viola (Diahy) Maalouf. Growing up in Brooklyn, George showed an early love of science and after graduating from Fort Hamilton High School in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York, he earned a bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Science from St. John’s University in Jamacia, New York.
For over 40 years, George worked in clinical and retail pharmacy. It was his career that brought him and his family from Brooklyn to Broomall, and eventually, Newtown Square, where he settled in 1993 and raised his three children. One accomplishment he was very proud of was earning his PharmD doctoral degree in 2023 from Shenandoah University.
George was a diligent professional and a tremendous volunteer. He devoted his life to serving his community as a parishioner of St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church (where he served on the board, and formerly as President of the Parish Council), a member of the American Hellenic Education Progressive Association (AHEPA) and a volunteer for the Delaware County Medical Reserve Corps.
Whether he was grilling hamburgers, preparing pasticcio for the Greek Affair festival, enjoying a cigar with friends at the Wooden Indian tobacco shop or watching the Eagles play, George lived a full life and will be missed by many.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, Zoe (née. Kozanis), George is survived by his sister, Denise (Brian) Tepper, and his children, Anthony A. Maalouf, Marcus M. (Laura) Maalouf and Nawal K. (Rachel) Maalouf and many beloved cousins.
Family and friends are invited to view Friday, June 14, 2024 from 10am-12noon at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 35 N. Malin Road, Broomall PA, 19008. His Funeral service will begin promptly at 12noon. Interment to follow in Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall, PA.
Among many others, a cause George cared about was Alzheimer’s research and awareness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association http://www.curealzfund.org/ or to the St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church. https://www.st-luke.org/
