Edward Magliocco, 89, died Wednesday, May 6 from complications due to COVID-19.
Born in January, 1931 to parents Samuel and Angelina Magliocco, he leaves his wife, Elizabeth(O’Keefe) Magliocco, his sons Edward and Stephen, his grandchildren Alexander and Addison, and his brother Louis. He is preceded in death by his daughter Judith.
Mr. Magliocco was born and raised in Philadelphia and attended Central High School, then Temple University where he earned a bachelor of science degree in Education. He married in 1953 and moved his family to the western suburbs, eventually settling in Havertown where he lived from 1968 - 1983.
He started his teaching career in the field of mathematics where his students came to know him as ‘Mr. Mag’. After a short time, he became mathematics department head, eventually rising to Vice Principal, then principal where he remained until his retirement in summer of 1993. He genuinely cared about his Dobbins students, faculty and staff.
No mention of Ed Magliocco’s life would be complete without mention of his brotherhood in the Alpha Phi Delta national fraternity, where he was an active, dedicated member. Among his many accomplishments within the fraternity, he served as Executive Vice-President from 1996-1998.
In his private time, he was a juried artist, an avid golfer, and an all around Philadelphia sports fan.
A private burial ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 12 for immediate family members only
