Ekaterini "Katina" Bottos Obituary

Ekaterini “Katina” Bottos, age 96, passed peacefully, surrounded by family.  Katina was born in Servia, Kozani, Greece.  She arrived in New York via ship in 1956 with her sister Lefki Spalas, passing the Statue of Liberty as so many immigrants had done before.  In search of a better life and a new beginning, Katina and her sister moved to Philadelphia where they lived with their uncle.  Soon after, at a church function, she met and then later married the love of her life, Philip.  Together they started their life and raised their family.  They moved to Springfield, Pennsylvania and were life-long members of St. Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church.  Katina loved her family and her friends.  She never forgot where she came from – and stayed in very close contact with her relatives in Greece.  She was always kind and generous – and welcomed everyone into their home.  Katina enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and caring for her family.  She prepared a home-cooked meal daily, as she did not believe in processed foods.  Her baking skills were phenomenal and unsurpassed.  Of course, she never used a receipe.  She was a woman of strong orthodox faith, attending church every Sunday and remained true to her heritage – passing on many Greek traditions and customs to her children.  Katina, along with her husband Philip, took many trips over the years, including weekly trips to the casino.  She was a caregiver for 15 years to Philip before his passing, and insisted on living independently in her home until the end.  Katina was blessed with a good, long life, filled with love and admiration from all who knew her.  May her memory be eternal.

Katina follows her late husband, Philip, and is survived by her 3 children:  Valerie (George Spatoulas), Theodore (Renee Bottos), Mike (Jean Marie Bottos), her 6 grandchildren: Nicholas (Gabriela Spatoulas), Chrissy (Sean Stolnis), Katina (Matt Palmer), Philip, Mike, and Rosie Bottos, great grandchildren Luke and Andrew.  She is also survived by her loving sister, Lefki Spalas, along with many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services held on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024.  The viewing will be from 10:00-11:00AM with the funeral to follow at 11:00AM at St. Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church, 35 N.
