Eleni Kapousidis, 90, passed away peacefully on October 1st, 2020. Born on March 14th, 1930 in Kilkis, Greece, she was one of 7 children to Irini & Nikoloas Petridis. In 1952, she met and married her beloved husband, Vasilios and together they had 2 children, Fotini (George) and Yianni (Voula). In 1970, they bid farewell to their homeland and moved to the United States of America to be reunited with her older brother John and his family in Upper Darby, PA, in hopes for a better future for their family. Eleni worked and excelled as a seamstress until 1985, when she retired and took on her most important role as a Yiayia. Her greatest love and joy were her 6 grandchildren, Vasilios (Rachael), Maria, Christina, Eleni, Maria & Eleni, and her newest and most loved obsession were her 2 great grandchildren, Ioannis and Leonidas. Spoiling them every chance she got and dressing them from head to toe with her handmade knit clothing. There was never a day she left the house without a few dozen pictures of them in her purse to show off to any of her friends she may have seen. After her husband became paralyzed by a stroke, she cared for him for over 10 years never leaving his side. After his passing, she became involved in her beloved parish of St. Demetrios, helping out with making pites and loukoumades for the festivals as well as sewing new robes for the altar boys. Eleni was a humble, devout and pious Orthodox Christian, who carried her cross, as heavy as it was, with much patience and humility till her very last breath. She was always present in church and continuously prayed for all of mankind and preached to everyone that the way of salvation was thru prayer, forgiveness, repentance but above all love. Her beautiful smile and faithful legacy will live on forever, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
