George Evangelou

George Evangelou of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2020.
George was born in Alethriko, Larnaca in Cyprus on May 10, 1934. He  emigrated to the United States at the age of 17 to work with his uncle in Hopewell, VA. He later returned to Cyprus to marry his wife, Katerina. He served in the United States Airforce stationed in Germany, then finally settled with his family in Philadelphia where he worked several jobs before opening his own restaurant. This was the beginning of a career that he pursued and became very successful at for the rest of his life.
George will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his compassion for helping others, and for his endless love and support for his family.
George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Katerina, his parents, Evangelos and Maria, and brother-in-law Kanellos Kanellopoulos.
He was a devoted father to his children Evans (Maria), Dean (Deborah), and Maria Sosangelis (Theodore).
Proud Papou to his 8 grandchildren Stephen, Katrina LaPorte (Brian), Nina Conomos (Nicholas), Christen, George, Dean, Nina, and Matthew.
Also proud Great Grandfather to 4 loving great grandsons, Nicholas, Jacob, Theo, and Luca.
Also survived by his brother Andreas of Cyprus (Katerina) and sisters Katina Horattas (Sophocles), Eleni Christou (Lazaros), Pauline Zantzas of Greece (Vasilios), and Evdokia Kanellopoulos. And many nieces and nephews.
