GEORGE P. MYLONAS passed away on December 28, 2021 from complications due to Covid-19. He was 88 years old.
George was born in a village outside of Patras, Greece on September 7, 1933 as one of six children to Panagiotis and Barbara Mylonas. He was an entrepreneur from an early age with humble beginnings as a photographer in Plateia Psila Alonia, a well known park in central Patras, and later selling match sticks as well as becoming a waiter in fine dining establishments in Athens. He immigrated to the United States in 1958 via cruise ship which passed by the Statue of Liberty moments before docking into port in New York City, where he was greeted by his Aunt and Uncle, Penny and Konstantinos Mellonas, and their dear friends, Reverend, Theodore and Olga Logothetis and their son, Nicholas Logothetis.
He arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he studied accounting at the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania earning an Associate Degree, while working as a waiter in various restaurants by night. He met his future bride, Mary A. Mylonas (Stavros) at an Ahepa Dance and were soon married in 1960. After an initial stint as a staff accountant at La France Manufacturing Corp in South Philadelphia, he went solo opening his own Public Accounting firm in 1968, where he cultivated an extensive Greek client base in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He never retired.
He is survived by his loving son, Peter (Svitlana), Grandchildren, George, Demetra (Robert) and Elias. He is also survived by his brothers, Nicholaos (Pelagia), Fotios (Sophia) and sister, Dina (Hristos), as well as his brother in law, Peter W. Stavros. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Mary A. Mylonas.
Friends and family are welcome to attend his viewing TUESDAY, JANUARY 4, 2022 from 10:00am to 11:00am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 30 East Forge Road, Media, Pa. 19063. His funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Internment shall be at Fernwood Cemetery, in Lansdowne, Pa.
