Haig Geovjian, age 93, of Aldan, PA, passed away suddenly and peacefully at his home on Friday, November 29, 2024. He was born in Philadelphia on May 1, 1931, to the late Parnag and Shahanik (née Kachejian) Geovjian. A West Philadelphia High School graduate, Haig formed lasting friendships that he carried with him throughout his life. After graduating, he worked various jobs before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, an experience that shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of service to others. In his early career years, Haig worked as a typewriter salesman for Remington Rand, a job that marked the beginning of his independent business journey.
In 1960, he married the late Barbara Wisniewski, and settled in Aldan Pennsylvania, where they raised three children. Together, they built a loving home and a life full of joy, laughter, and cherished memories. Haig founded "Typewriter Warehouse", a successful typewriter sales and repair business for over 50 years. He was a dedicated member of St. Sahag & St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, serving on the men’s club for many years. Whether “Haig,” “Joe Haig,” “Uncle Haigy,” “Mr. G,” “Dad,” or “Grandpop,” he was beloved for his stories, jokes, kind heart, and generosity. Above all, he was a family man who found great joy in spending time with his loved ones and cooked dinner every Sunday for them.
Haig is survived by his three children: John Haig Geovjian, Elizabeth Gallagher (Charles), and Patricia Mefford (John). He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Curtis Gallagher (Madeleine), Amira Gallagher, Faylyn Mefford, Anna Mefford, and Jonie Mefford. In addition, he is survived by nieces, nephews, and his neighbor and companion of 15 years, Christine Pinkstone. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
Friends and Family are invited to attend his viewing from 10 am to 11 am on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, at St. Marks Armenian Church, 400 Haverford Rd, Wynnewood, PA 19096. His funeral services will be 11am in the church. Interment to follow in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Haig’s name be made to St. Sahag & St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church. https://www.sahagmesrob.church/
