Hambartsum "Hambik" Abelian Obituary

Hambartsum “Hambik” Abelian

Hambik passed away peacefully on December 13th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 11, 1951, in Gyumri, Armenia to Grikor and Anush Abelian. Growing up, he greatly excelled in both academics and sports. He was exceptionally gifted in mathematics and logic and was a top talent in volleyball. He obtained a Master’s Degree in Economics from Yerevan State University, with honors, and worked as an economist while living in Armenia. Although he had established a successful career and loved living in Armenia, in the late 1980’s he decided to move to America for the betterment of his family and future children.

After moving to America, Hambik worked as a plant manager, owned various businesses, and finished out employment as a reliable independent courier. Outside of work, Hambik had a passion for studying all aspects of Armenian culture, and an appreciation for collecting antique rugs and furniture. His favorite activity was undoubtedly “khorovatz” with his family, where he was known for grilling delicious steaks and being the best card player on the table in Belote and poker. Hambik will always be remembered for his intelligence, strength, honesty, and great sense of humor. Above all, he deeply loved and valued family; a dedication reflected strongly in his legacy.

Hambik is survived by his wife, Narine, his son, Grigor, his daughter, Anush, his sister, Lucine, and many cherished family members who will forever hold his memory dear. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anush and Grikor, his sisters Yeva, Mareta, Astghik, and his brother, Andranik.

Hambik’s legacy of honor, honesty, and family will live on forever through the lives he touched. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
