Helen (Eleni) Bouikides fell alseep with the lord on January 31, 2024.
Eleni Left her family and friends behind in Greece to come to America with her daughter in 1958 to be with her husband Elias. She was a strong woman eager to tackle obstacles that came her way, and there were many. She worked in a clothing factory to support her family.
After four years of hard work, they decided to return to Greece to be with their family. Once back, she realized that her only child would have greater educational opportunities back in the States. Thus, in November of 1962 they returned to America with greater ambition and willpower. Her thought then was to sponsor family to come, and sponsor they did, form immediate family to cousins and even to friends.
Eleni was a jack of all trades. She was a painter, painting all the homes she had, both inside and out. She was a masoner working with concrete. She was a carpenter building a garage, a gazebo, a shed for her home. She was a seamstress without formal education in that field. She was a knitter and crocheter doing all sorts of designs with her signature little sweaters depicting the ugly ducklings.
Eleni was also very much involved with church life and activities. First with St. Demetrios and later with St. Luke, she was an active member with the Philoptochos and always available to help wherever needed. She has over 15 God children. She lived a full and active life. Full of Joy and happiness. She loved her family very much.
She leaves behind her daughter Despina (Nick) Tsirakoglou, grandsons Stephanos, Elias (Nafiha), great grandchildren, Rayna and Adam, Brother, Vlassis Vasiliadis, sister, Nancy (George) Athanasiadis, sister-in-laws, Paraskevi Vasiliadis, Anatoli Vasiliadis, Hariklia Bouikides, Brother-in-law. Andreas (Theognosia) Bouikides and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Frineds and family are welcome to attend her viewing from 10am to 11am Saturday, 2-3-2024, at The Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke, 35 N. Malin Rd, Broomall, Pa 19008. Her funeral service will take place at 11am in the church. Her interment will follow in Fernwood Cemetery following the funeral service.
