(1925-2021) Helen Kenis, 95, a resident of Broomall, formerly of Havertown and Upper Darby, passed away on March 25, 2021, surrounded by family. Helen was born in Philadelphia and was raised there by her father. She was predeceased by her adoring husband Jimmy. She is survived by her loving children, including Michael (Marie) and Vicki Apriceno (Chris), and many grandchildren, including Andy (Rachel), Lauri, Sarah (Nick), Becky (John), and Kyle (Tarrah). She was also blessed with many great grandchildren. Helen was one of the founding members of Saint Demitrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby and later became a member of
St. Luke’s Church in Broomall. She loved to spend summers in Wildwood, New Jersey. She worked for the Red Cross during WWII. Her passion was cooking and she loved having her family for holiday dinners. Helen and Jimmy were famous for their blow-out New Year’s Eve parties. She raised her family then worked at the family’s restaurants, including D&D Restaurant in Center City. She later worked at Douglas Fudge on the Wildwood Boardwalk. She loved reading and had a grand knowledge of actors in old movies. Everyone will miss their Yiayia.
Family and friends are invited to safely attend her viewing on Wednesday. March 31, 2021 at 10:00 am with funeral service at 11:00 am at Saint Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 35 N. Malin Rd., Broomall PA. 19008. Masks must be worn in church and social distance guidelines apply. We thank you in advance for cooperation, as this allows us to continue to provide safe funeral services in the church.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her loving memory to St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church or Ladies Philoptochos Society at St Luke’s.
