James “Jim” Hildenbrand, 71 years old, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away peacefully at Lankenau Medical Center on February 27, 2024, surrounded by his wife and good friends, after a month long battle with sudden onset respiratory failure. During his lengthy hospital stay, he never lost his sense of humor or his ability to inspire others. He touched the hearts of all who knew him.
The youngest of five children, Jim was born in Upper Darby on July 15, 1952, to Carl “Dutch” Hildenbrand and Catherine “Cass” Hildenbrand (nee Rush). He grew up with his siblings Eric, Kathleen (nee Johnston), Carl and Carol (nee Van Auken), the latter two of whom predeceased him.
Jim was a great Patriot. He started his career in the United States Air Force, and following honorable discharge, went to work for the Justice Department, Bureau of Prisons, and then transferred to the United States Postal Service, from which he retired. Jim took great pleasure in creating and updating his website about his father and his father’s three brothers’ service in World War II (see http://jameshildenbrand.com ), talking about politics with anyone who would engage with him, watching Fox News, playing poker tournaments, and traveling with his wife and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa “Terry” (nee Loscalzo), his son James (with wife Maria, and their sons Porter, Alister and Griffin); his son Jason (with wife Kristen, and their daughters Zoe and Arden and sons, Jonah, Simon and Oscar); and his daughter, Danielle Burkhart (with husband, Mark), along with a vast extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are welcome to attend his viewing from 6 PM to 8 PM Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Vraim Funeral Home, 66 S. State Road, Upper Darby, PA 19082 and Wednesday March 6 from 10-11am at St Dorothy’s Parish Church, located at 4910 Township Lime Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. His Mass of Christian Burial will begin promptly at 11am. Interment to follow in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, located at 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield PA 19064.
