John Kevgas, 83, joined our Lord on June 24, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born to George and Katherine Kevgas and raised in Methuen, Massachusetts. Family was the most important thing to John, and there was nothing more enjoyable to him than time with Maria, his wife of 55 years, his children and grandchildren all of whom he is survived by. John and Maria had three children: George (Panayota) of Paoli, Pennsylvania, Scott of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and Anne-Charissa Halkias (Fr. Nicholas) of Canton, Ohio. They were both honored and thrilled to cherish six grandchildren to love and spend time with: Marianthi Halkias, Marianna Kevgas, Hope Halkias, Markella Kevgas, Kyra Halkias and John Kevgas, his namesake. John is also survived by his sister, Elaine Kevgas of Andover, Massachusetts.
John Kevgas graduated from UMass Lowell (Lowell Tech) with a degree in Plastics Technology. After graduation, he began his career with Burlington Industries in Reading, Massachusetts as a plant chemist and process engineer. He then changed career paths and got into sales, marketing and management with the Pennwalt Corporation, first in Boston, then in Philadelphia. When Pennwalt Corporation was bought by Total Petrochemical, a French company, he worked his way through several management positions, eventually becoming the Division Vice-President and General Manager of the Fluoropolymers and Fluorochemicals Division. His global responsibilities often gave him the opportunity to travel to and from France for work.
Not only was John dedicated in his career, but in his personal life as well. Along with his deep love of his family, he was also a very proud Greek Orthodox Christian, being a lifelong, active member of the church and serving on Parish Councils in both Annunciation Church in Woburn, Massachusetts, as well as St. Luke in Broomall, Pennsylvania. He was also active in his earlier years in several Masonic bodies. John was the past Worshipful Master of John Hancock Lodge in Methuen and was a 32nd Degree Mason, as well as being a Shriner with the Aleppo Temple in Wilmington, Massachusetts.
