John Parseghian, 95, passed away on February 10, 2021 in Ashburn, Va.
A truly self-made man, John was born in Philadelphia and grew up during the Great Depression in Philadelphia and in Northern New Jersey. He graduated from Memorial High School in West New York, NJ and served in the United States Army during World War 2. Upon return to Philadelphia following the war, John earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University, which led to his 45-year career working as an engineer for the General Electric Corporation. John’s static relay designs are in part responsible for the electrification of much of the world.
John married Helen (Boyajian) Parseghian in 1951 and they were inseparable for more than 69 wonderful years. John is survived by his wife Helen, brother Edward, son Gregory John, daughter-in-law Christine, grandsons Gregory John Jr. and Alexander Gabriel, nieces Barbara, Nancy, and Pamela, and nephews John, James, and Steven. He is remembered as a respected, supportive, loving, and devoted husband, brother, father, uncle and grandfather. Family and friends will remember his razor sharp memory and amazing stories he told about his life experiences.
John was active in his Armenian faith. He served as a Parish Council member of the St Sahag and St Mesrob Armenian Church and was one of the founders of the Church’s Permanent Endowment Fund.
