Kyriakos Bouikidis Obituary

In Loving Memory of Kyriakos S. Bouikidis

March 13, 1931 — December 5, 2025

Kyriakos S. Bouikidis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great‑grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025. He was 94.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Maria; his three children, Debbie (Aris Karalis), Stephen (Holly Salk) and Eugenia (John Chrysikopoulos); his five cherished grandchildren, Maria, Christina (Luke Miller), Stephanie, Jerry, and Alexander; and his two treasured great‑grandchildren, George and Charles.

Born on March 13, 1931, in Agioi Anargiri, a small village in Macedonia, Greece, Kyriakos came of age in a time of profound upheaval. His family endured the German occupation of northern Greece and the civil war that followed World War II—experiences that forged his resilience and deep appreciation for peace, family, and community. In the early 1950s, he fulfilled his duty to his country by serving two years in the Greek Army.

While working in a pastry shop in Thessaloniki, Kyriakos was presented with an opportunity that would change the course of his life: to immigrate to the United States in 1956. He began humbly as a dishwasher in a Greek restaurant in Upper Darby, PA, quickly moving up to waiting tables as his warm personality and tireless work ethic shone through. After becoming a U.S. citizen, he returned to Greece in 1962 to visit family and friends—where he met the love of his life, Maria. They married and together began building their future in America.

He soon brought over his two brothers Panagiotis (surviving), Anastasios and his dear sister Anastasia from Greece for them to begin their new journeys.

Kyriakos spent his career in the Philadelphia area’s restaurant industry, serving with grace and pride at esteemed establishments including the Vesper’s Club, the Sheraton Hotel (from the era when dinner and dancing filled hotel ballrooms), The Picket Post and, finally, Charlotte’s Restaurant in Newtown Square. He retired at age 83—still spry, still able to balance eight plates on a single tray, and still greeting former patrons who were delighted to see him around town or when he returned to Charlotte’s for occasional meals with family.

A gentle man with a generous spirit and quick wit, Kyriakos shared his humor with his children, grandchildren, and countless patrons who came to know him not just as a server, but as a friend. He was hardworking and steadfast, building a life centered on family and community. Sundays were special: church in the morning, followed by Sunday drives to explore the area. He loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren—often babysitting alongside Maria—which brought out his playful warmth and loving demeanor.

Kyriakos chose a simple, meaningful life, devoted to the people and values that mattered most. He never complained and always rose to the occasion to do what was right. He was deeply loved by his family, his community, and the patrons he served with dignity and joy. He will be dearly missed. May his memory be eternal.
