Manoog (Mike) Manoogian, 91, of Springfield, Pennsylvania, passed away on February 10, 2022.
Mike was the loving Father of Julie and Michael Manoogian (Dianna) and Grandfather to Michael & Ari Manoogian and Jake & Jasmine Antriasian. He was devoted to his sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth & Leo Vartanian and Stella & Jack Tian. He was a favorite Uncle to Aaron Tian (Sandy), Manse Tian and Dawn Soave (Tony), and both great-Uncle, and great-great-Uncle to their families.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1930 to Zakar and Mary (nee Barakian) Manoogian. He was a proud first-generation Armenian-American and the son of Armenian Genocide Survivors. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, having served during the Korean War.
Throughout his long life, Mike traveled to many countries while in the service or on vacation. He had a varied career, starting as a licensed barber in Detroit, a stockbroker in New York City, and finally as the owner of Holiday Dry Cleaners in Broomall, PA. For 26 years, he loved greeting customers and neighbors and was nicknamed “The Mayor of Broomall”.
Mike was an avid tennis player and member of Idle Hour Tennis Club in Drexel Hill, PA. He spent many years playing on the courts and sitting on the porch with his fellow tennis lovers. He was recently honored at the club for his 50-year membership.
Mike was very social and loved chatting with people. He enjoyed a good joke and always had a friendly greeting for everyone.
Family and friends are invited to his calling hour from 10-11am and Funeral at 11am on Friday, February 18, 2022, at St. Gregory’s Armenian Apostolic Church, 8701 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA. 19128 . Interment will be private. Guests are invited to attend a Luncheon immediately following the funeral service at Springfield Country Club, 400 West Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064.
