Obituary

Margaret “Margie” DerGarabedian (née Ansourian) was born in Philadelphia on May 13th, 1936 to Hagop and Virginia. She grew up in a loving family with her sister, Rosemary Diradourain, surrounded by her great grandmother, morcors, and first cousins. Margie graduated from Bartram High School, trained as an X-Ray technician and worked at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. As fate would have it, in 1954, Margie met the love of her life, Jack DerGarabedian, at an Armenian picnic. In May of 1958, they were married at St. Gregory’s at 16th and Oxford. They were soon blessed with three loving children, Dorothy Jean (Mark Hanamirian), Harry DerGarabedian (Joyce), and Mary Jacqueline (Tom Harper). Margie and Jack built a successful delicatessen and catering business in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. It was a center of activity and a second home for many of their family, friends, and customers. They retired in 1999 and later moved to Ocean City, New Jersey. They enjoyed spending the weekends down the shore with their grandchildren: Jocelyn (Matt Hiemenz), Caroline (Gene Merewether), Thomas, Rachael, Kyle, and Brett. They especially loved walking on the boardwalk. Later in life, Margie was blessed with two great grandchildren, Gene Thomas and Genevieve Margaret, whom she loved to spoil. Margie also enjoyed volunteering her time helping to prepare delicacies for the food festival and took pride in decorating and etching the names on the Church’s Advent Tree. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 25th at St. Gregory’s Armenian Apostolic Church. The family will be receiving visitors at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Gregory’s Armenian Apostolic Church or Friends of the NICU at Brigham and Women’s Hospital give.brighamandwomens.org.
