Maria Kontis, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, at the age of 88. A proud Greek immigrant from a tiny village in the province of Epirus, Kerasohori, in northern Greece, she was one of ten children born to Anathanasios and Anastsia Bottos. Without a formal education, Maria was always eager to learn and grown in every way she could. In July of 1966, she and her husband Christos, embarked on a twelve day voyage to the United States with their two young sons, Kosta and Thomas in search of the American dream. Upon their arrival in the United States, they lived in Worcester, Massachusets with family, then moved to the Philadelphia area, residing in Upper Darby, Lansdale and Broomall, PA, followed by their final move to Wilmington, Delaware, to be close to their four grandchildren. Maria was a devoted wife to her husband Christos for more than 70 years, and together they enjoyed gardening and practicing their Orthodox faith. She found pure joy in the kitchen, whether baking baklava, making pastitsio, or finding any reason to cook and bring her family together. Her grandchildren, Christina, Christopher, Maria and James, were the absolute center of her world. Her unwavering dedication to her family and the many Greek traditions she held dear, will forever be her legacy.
She is the beloved wife of Christos, Loving Mother of Kostas (Cynthia) and Thomas (Jennifer). Devoted Grandmother of Christina, Christopher, Maria, and James.
Friends and family are welcome to attend her viewing from 10am to 11am Wednesday, 11-20-2024, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 30 East Forge Rd, Media, PA 19063. Her funeral service will be at 11am in the church. Her interment will follow at St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
