Marie Gregory Obituary

Marie Anahid Gregory passed away on April 23, 2025 at age 72.  Marie Anahid had an interesting early life: from an Armenian family who lived in Istanbul, Turkey, her only sibling was Pontish Yeramyan in our congregation, whom many of you know.

When Marie was born, Pontish was five and a half years old.

Marie was actually born in Paris in October 1953 and lived her early years in Istanbul, attending an Armenian primary school.  She then transferred to a boarding school in England.  A brilliant young student, she went on to a private high school in New York City and then to Barnard College of Columbia University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in philosophy.  She then got her Master’s degree specializing in formal logic and ethics at the University of Pennsylvania and taught undergraduate ethics classes.

Marie was a very curious and social person.  She worked in her sister’s company part time for more than 20 years. She would often come to the office in the midafternoon.  She would go around and talk to people going from one office to another.  Sometimes she would get into philosophical conversations, sometimes political.  She was not shy!! She loved talking to the people at work.

She was quite a hard-working person when she was at the Gap office.  Her work involved researching businesses and employment practices and she produced an enormous volume of work.  As most of you remember, much of her time was spent working closely with Arsine Oshagan.

Marie was always about making a difference for people. She always wanted to help people. She would want to help people even if they didn’t want to be helped.  She wasn’t shy and was very free to share her views – but they were always aimed at making things better.  She cared.

She had a lot of love in her, and her generosity was huge. If anyone needed a home or place to stay, she would open her home to them.  Marie was very special in her open-heartedness and love for people. Throughout her life, she was committed to making a difference to humanity.

Marie did not take life for granted.  Not one bit.  She was always on the move.  She tended to her physical well-being by exercising regularly at the gym and swimming. Her thirst for learning was always strong.  She took self-development courses and attended a variety of education courses ongoingly. She was truly active in life.

Marie is survived by her sister Agavni Pontish Yeramyan, and nieces Araks Yeramyan (Joe Graham-Felsen), Ani Yeramyan Speirs (Dan Speirs).  Also survived by grand nieces and nephews Aren, Garo,  Khoren, Ara, Taline and Sevan, as well as her good friends.

Family and friends are invited to her funeral service 5 pm Friday April 25, 2025 at St. Sahag and St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 630 Clothier Rd., Wynnewood, PA 19096.  Interment private at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the church.
