Nancy Lekas Tombrakos, born on October 17,1922 made her transition on October 2, 2020 surrounded by her son Peter and daughter Joanne. The fourth of seven children, Nancy was born during the Great Depression in Jamaica, New York and came of age during WWll. She never expected anything to be easy for her, but that never stopped her optimism and drive to make things better. She married the love of her life James John Tombrakos in 1951 and for 35 years they built a family and a life together. A widow at the age of 63, she once again showed her determination to - as she would say “live her life.”
If you knew Nancy you knew that she was a beautiful, kind woman with a ready smile. She was strong, outspoken, stylish and often quite the character. She was a legendary baker, a wonderful cook, had a real talent for dressmaking, loved movies, Frank Sinatra and oatmeal cookies without raisins. Most importantly she had a generous heart and as someone once said she was a real “breath of fresh air.”
In addition to her children, she is survived by her youngest brother, Nicholas Lekas and a host of nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
