Nicholas Pappas Obituary

Our beloved Nicholas C. Pappas passed away on December 12, 2025, in Bryn Mawr, PA surrounded by his family.

Nicholas was a man full of pride and a strong believer in family, religion and hard work.

He was born on January 2, 1927, in the village of Demati, Ioanninon, Greece.  His childhood was not easy as he lived through the Second World War, a civil war as well as hunger.

When Nicholas finished high school in Ioanninon he moved to the United States to be with his dad.  Soon after he was enlisted in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War where he obtained the rank of sergeant.

Upon his return from Korea, he married Fani and together they had three boys, and he ran the Broadway Restaurant on North Broad Street for many years.

His loving wife, Fani and his son, Dean, are welcoming him into heaven.

He was very proud of his two sons, Spirodon (Nicole) and George (Maria), his three grandchildren, Nicholas (Leah), Niko (Lauren), John (Allie) and his ten great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to view Monday December 22, 2025 at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 256 S. 8th St., Philadelphia, PA 19107.  His funeral service will begin promptly at 11am. Interment to follow in Fernwood Cemetery, 6501 Baltimore Ave, Lansdowne, PA 19050.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Nicholas’s name be made to the cathedral.

Due to the extreme lack of parking spaces currently available at St. George Cathedral, when you approach the front of the cathedral you will be given a funeral tag that hangs from the rearview mirror of your vehicle. If there is a spce avaiable yu will be guided to it.  Unfortunately, once the availble spaces are filled we are no longer permitted to line cars on the surrounding streets so you will have to find parking on your own.  I would then suggest traveling to Fernwood Cemetery on your own from your respective parking spots, it is much safer and it will be extremely difficult to form a procession.  Once you reach the cemetery if you don’t know where the Greek section is please wait outside the main entrance close to the curb on Baltimore Ave. and follow us in once the family procession passes by.
