Paul A. Geori

Paul Geori (Polo Xhori), 100, of Springfield, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday May 20th, 2021, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife Magdalini, his sons Jorgo and Stefan, his daughters-in-law Anila and Mimoza, his grandsons Paul, Denis, Julian and Philip, his granddaughter Victoria, his sister Celia, his nephews Genci and Ervin and his niece Entela.

Paul was born on January 11th, 1921, in Labove e Zhapes, Albania, to George Geori and Vite Kutra.  After coming to America for the first time in the early 1930’s, Paul graduated from Northeast High School (class of 1940) and later Temple University.  In 1943, he was recruited as a member of the United States Army Corp and served until he was honorably discharged due to injury.

After his time in the Army, Paul worked as a music teacher in a high school in the Philadelphia area, as well as played the violin in the local city orchestra.  Upon returning to Albania, Paul worked as a translator for a publishing company in Tirana, Albania.

While in America, Paul (being a man of great religious faith) became a parishioner of Saint John Chrysostom Albanian Orthodox Church in Philadelphia, where he also sang in the Church choir. He enjoyed many things, such as learning new languages, solving crossword puzzles and translating books from Albanian to English.  In addition to this, he enjoyed reading, teaching English, and helping Albanian Immigrants who had just recently moved to America settle in.  Above all, Paul’s greatest passion in life was playing the violin, something that he not only did for his entire life, but also passed down onto his children and grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may attend his funeral services 11am Tuesday May 25 at Saint John Chrysostom Albanian Orthodox Church. Viewing one hour prior to his service in the church.  The burial will take place at Fernwood Cemetery in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.  A luncheon will follow at Teca, located at 191 South Newtown Street Road, Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, 19073.
