Peter (Takis) John Angelakos, 93 years of age, of Rosemont, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 21, 2022. He was a dedicated husband, loving father and grandfather, and a loyal relative, cousin, and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Toula, his children Matina (Marios) Avgousti and Yanni (Courtney) Angelakos. Loving grandfather (Pappou) of Harris, Rianna, Sophia, Peter, and Stella.
He was the son of Greek immigrants who grew up during the Great Depression in the United States and pre-World War II in Greece--a backdrop which shaped his determination, work ethic, and love of family. His parents emphasized education for their only child. He was awarded the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal upon graduating from Bound Brook High School for excelling in math and the sciences, and was selected to the all-state chorus--all the while working during the nights in his family's confectionery store. He attended musical courses during a summer at the Julliard School of Music in New York City. He then went on to proudly attend Rutgers University for his undergraduate (political science) and law degrees, and Columbia University for his Master's degree in International Law. He also proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War where he attained the rank of Captain while stationed in Laon, France. He spent his entire 41-year career as a corporate attorney in the International Law division of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (presently part of Pfizer) in the suburban Philadelphia area where he also served as Corporate Secretary.
It was during a business trip to Greece where he met his future loving and dedicated wife, Toula. They were married in 1962 and were unwavering parents and grandparents, always determined to provide for and guide their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed attending numerous orchestral and operatic performances throughout their nearly 60 years of marriage--particularly The Philadelphia Orchestra where they were lifelong patrons. They spent the last 20 years of their lives vacationing in Greece during the summers and traveled extensively throughout Europe. He had a particular attachment and bond to his father's village of Glikovrisi near Sparta where he had spent the summers with his cousins during his youth. He extensively shared these fond memories of the village with his children and grandchildren and had taken them to visit there on numerous occasions.
His passion for learning, history, culture, classical music, and traveling was something he spread to his family and friends throughout the decades. He strove to uphold the Greek culture, traditions, language, and the Greek Orthodox faith. Above all, his compassion, integrity, honesty, politeness, and selflessness set the example for his family. A true gentleman and someone who always put his family and friends before himself. He will always be remembered.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation from 10:00am to 11:00am on April 28, 2022, at St. Luke's Greek Orthodox Church, 35 North Malin Road, Broomall, PA 19008, followed by his funeral service at 11:00am, and interment at St. Peter and Paul's cemetery in Springfield, PA.
