Peter James Gabriel was born in the quiet river town of Peoria, Illinois where he spent his first six years before the family moved to Philadelphia in 1972. A graduate of Lower Moreland High School in Huntingdon Valley, he was an eclectic mix of many things.
Peter was an accomplished drummer and percussionist. He brought remarkable creativity, passion and energy with a pair of sticks in his hands and there wasn’t a style of music he couldn’t play. However his love and knowledge of music extended well beyond playing. His voluminous collection of vinyl and CD’s would make any music store envious.
He loved movies and, like music, had an enviable collection of DVD’s and VHS tapes. If you brought up a film from the 1960’s, he would name everyone in the cast and who directed.
If the subject was politics, religion or American history you needed to settle in for a conversation that would go deep into the night. And perhaps the next morning. He routinely spoke on all three with the same passion and energy he brought to playing drums.
Finally, he was a sports fan who loved the Phillies, Flyers, Eagles and 76ers. A regular, and vocal, attendee at Sixers games with his mom for many years, there was never a doubt of where Peter was in the arena. He made his presence known.
A beloved son, brother and uncle, Peter will be dearly missed. His warm smile, infectious laugh and big heart will remain eternally with all who knew and loved him.
