Peter W. Stavros passed away on September 25, 2024. He was 93 years of age and since 1996, was a resident of Hershey's Mill, in East Goshen, Chester County, Pa.. He was born in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania on December 15, 1930 to Vasilios and Demetra Stavros, the oldest of three children. He received a B.A. in English from Lafayette College, in Easton, Pa. in 1954 and was on the Dean's List having graduated in the upper 1/3 of his class. He also completed two semesters of courses in advertising, production and marketing at Charles Morris Price School of Advertising, in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1958-59. He had an extensive career in advertising, initially as a newspaper reporter for the Easton Press from 1954 to 1956, a commercial continuity writer for an NBC radio station affiliate in Easton, Pa. in 1956-57, and later as an Advertising-Sales Promotion Manager for GAF CORP., in New York from 1966 to 1968 and for THE INSTRUCTO CORP., a subsidiary of McGraw Hill, in Paoli, Pa. from 1968 to 1970. Thereafter, he was the Director of Advertising and Sales for THE COUNCIL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN, in Reston, Va. from 1970 to 1982 and later became the Director of Meetings for the NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR THE SOCIAL STUDIES, in Washington, D.C. from 1982 until his retirement in 1996. His hobbies included classical music, photography and travel, including a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1998. He is lovingly remembered for his wit and sense of humor.
He is survived by his loving first cousins, Vanetta Remaine Stockton, George Paul Remaine, George Stacy Remaine, Terri Remaine and Kathy Sonosky and by his loving nephews and nieces, Peter George Mylonas, Esq., S.W. "Swis" Stockton, III, M.D., Alice Dame Stockton-Webb, Christopher Paul Rudd Remaine and by his many grand-nephews and nieces, including George Peter Mylonas, Demetra Maria Mylonas-Vlassopoulos and Elias Vasilios Mylonas and by his many loving great grand nephews and nieces.
Friends and family are welcome to attend his viewing Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 10:00am to 11:00am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 30 East Forge Road, Media, Pa. 19063. His funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Internment will be in Easton Cemetery, Easton, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Media, Pa.
