Pogos Voskanian, MD Obituary

Pogos H. Voskanian, MD
December 5, 1956 – March 13, 2024

It is with profound sadness that the family of Pogos H. Voskanian announces his passing on March 13, 2024, at 67 years old.

Pogos was the cherished husband of Serpouhi and loving father of Hagop and Juliette (Vahan). He was predeceased by his parents, Drs. Hagop Voskanian and Julietta Mehrabian.

Pogos was born in Yerevan, Armenia, where he originally studied as a civil engineer and was responsible for the design and construction of many bridges. After coming to the United States knowing only 50 words of English, he was accepted into Harvard University’s Extension School to pursue his lifelong passion of becoming a doctor. After completing the program with enormous determination and exceptionally high grades, he continued his education at UMass Chan Medical School. He completed his residency and fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at Tulane University Medical Center. Alongside his successful professional career, he became an adjunct professor at Drexel University College of Medicine, where his love for learning evolved into a love for teaching the next generation.

Although he had numerous educational and professional accomplishments, he was most proud to be a husband and father. He married his wife, Serpouhi, in Boston in 1983 and together they started a family with the birth of their son and daughter. They moved from Boston to New Orleans, and eventually settled in the Philadelphia area.

His dedication to his family and work was matched only by his enthusiasm for life itself. Every spare moment outside of school and work was spent taking his family on a new adventure. By going on fishing trips, spending time in the French Quarter listening to live jazz, and taking road trips across the country, he taught his family to find beauty in the world and always create unforgettable memories.

He was a man full of life and an abundant amount of knowledge. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, patients, colleagues, students, and all those whose lives he’s touched. May his soul rest in eternal peace and may his memory live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Funeral mass and services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church.
