Robert Riser Obituary

Robert Raymond Riser passed away peacefully on January 5, 2022 with his wife Adrienne and daughter Jeanne at his side. Robert was born in Ashtabula, Ohio in 1926 to George and Harriet Riser.  He had four siblings:  Paul, George Jr, Clara, and Ruth.  He enrolled in the Navy after high school graduation during WWII.  He attended Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute while in the military and received a degree in Marine Engineering.  Following his discharge from the Navy, Robert joined the Merchant Marine and rose to the level of Chief Engineer during his tenure there.

In the Summer of 1967, he met Adrienne Hatchikian on vacation in The Hamptons in New York.  They married one year later and settled in Newtown Square, PA, where they were blessed with their daughter Jeanne.  Robert retired from the Merchant Marine in 1971 and the family bought a summer home in Ocean City NJ.  His main passion during retirement was his love of golf.  He played five days a week, always joining the Country Club to ensure he would be able to play.  Robert became quite proficient in the game and played with several good friends.  The highlight of his years playing golf was a hole in one followed by each partner getting a hole in one on consecutive days.

In September of 1975 the US Coast Guard recruited Robert for his expertise in Marine Engineering and offered him a 5 year contract.  After much deliberation, he became a 1st Lieutenant in the US Coast Guard.

In January 1991 at the beginning of Desert Storm, he was solicited by the Navy to resurrect three ships in dry dock so they could transport military supplies for the Gulf War.  He flew down to Louisiana for this mission and completed the assignment.

Robert will be greatly missed as his kindness and sense of humor were contagious and made everyone laugh and smile.  He leaves behind his wife Adrienne, daughter Jeanne, grandson Hunter, brother George, niece Sally and nephews Bobby and Ted.
