Sandra Ashby Obituary

Sandra Nia Ashby (nee Goumas), a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and yiayia passed away peacefully at her beloved Wallingford home on Sunday, May 12th surrounded in love by her family.

Sandra (or Sandi as everyone knew her) was born on February 6th, 1952 in Manchester, New Hampshire and raised just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in a wonderful community of close knit friends. Sandi graduated from North Hills High shortly before moving to Wallingford in 1971. She was a Villanova University graduate and worked her entire career - 44 years! - at PNC Bank. Sandi started working in college as a teller and rose to become a Vice President of Treasury Management.

Sandi had an infectious personality and lived life to the fullest. An avid storyteller, she loved people and was always open for a chat or adventure. In college, she found an artistic outlet in designing and making jewelry. She continued this passion for the rest of her life creating beautiful works of art and developing deep friendships. Sandi treasured time at the beach, especially Sea Isle City, NJ. She was known to spot a sunny forecast on 6ABC and head out for a day trip just to hear the ocean with her feet in the sand.

Sandi is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ronald and their three children - Nia (Adam) Green, Courtney (John) Schwartz, and Ryan (Brittany Lala) Ashby. She adored her three grandchildren - Parker, Kinsley and Grayson - who treasured their time with Yiayia and always insisted on FaceTiming her.

Sandi is also survived by her father, Nicholas Goumas, two sisters Deeta (Carmen) Fiorentino, Cathy (Sonny) Michaliszyn; brother John (Susie) Goumas; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Artemis Goumas.

Friends and family are welcome to attend her visitation from 10am to 12pm Friday, May 17, 2024, at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 35 N. Malin Rd, Broomall, Pa 19008.  Her funeral service will take place at 12 noon in the church.  Her interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Four Diamonds Fund. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the organization, which helps families battling childhood cancer.
