Shirley Clare Hussian

Shirley Clare Hussian passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at the age of 91.

She was born on October 16, 1933 in Philadelphia PA. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Hussian, and sister to the late Elaine Sue Hussian. She is survived by her cousins and dear friends.

Shirley grew up in West Philadelphia and was a graduate of North Philadelphia High School and the Philadelphia College of Art.

Alongside her father John, founder of Hussian School of Art, later named Hussian College, Shirley served as Assistant Director and Registrar, and was Instrumental in curriculum development and direction of student affairs at the school. 

Like her father, Shirley was an artist, active in the field of advertising art.  She always had an eye for a good ad. Her artful eye also recognized high fashion, looking at clothing for its design, form, sophistication, and elegance.

Shirley lived a life of service to her family.  A long-time caregiver to her grandmother, parents, and her beloved sister, she selflessly made service her career.

She had the gift of eloquence, by definition articulate and effective in expressing meaning by speech. She always knew the correct word to use for the particular situation.

Shirley had keen intellect and sharp wit, and despite her age or generation, she was a contemporary thinker.  She was compassionate for people of all backgrounds and loved and appreciated animals and nature. She was grateful and kind, consistently expressing appreciation.  She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at 11 AM at St. Sahag & St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 630 Clothier Road, Wynnewood, PA  19096. A visiting hour will take place one hour prior from 10-11 AM at the church.  Burial is private.
