Sofia Gerasopoulos

Sofia Gerasopoulos passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024.  Born in Greece to Basilios and Evangelia Diamantis on September 25, 1944.  Sofia married her husband Athanasios Gerasopoulos on January 24, 1971.  They made their way to America in August 1971.  They settled in Upper Darby PA and they were long time members of Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.  They were blessed with two daughters, Evanthia Romeo and Evangelia (Bill) Karasis.

Sofia worked in various sewing factories in Philadelphia, for over 30 years.  On her free time, Sofia enjoyed needlepointing, gardening and taking good care of her family.

Sofia is survived by five grandchildren, Gabriella, Gina and Frankie Romeo and Sofia and Andoni Karasis.  

Sofia is also survived by her two brothers in Greece, George (Stella) Diamantis and Elias (Maria) Diamantis and sister Eleni Moshonisiotou.

She is also survived by her son-in-law Bill Karasis and by her two sister-in-laws Soultana Pavlidou and Vasilike (Kosmas) Papadopoulos and many nieces and nephews.

Sofia is pre-deceased by her parents, husband, brother Dimitrios and son-in-law Saverio.

Family and friends are welcome to view on Tuesday, April 23 from 10-11am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 229 Powell Lane, Upper Darby PA 19082.  https://saintdemetrios.org/   Her funeral service will begin promptly at 11am.  Interment  to follow in Fernwood Cemetary.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church.
