Soultana Pavlidou age 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 25, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of resilience and faith.
She was born in the remote and picturesque village of Dafni, in the Western Macedonian region of Greece — a place she always carried in her heart. At just four years old, she lost her mother, and later endured unimaginable tragedy during World War II and the Greek Civil War.
In 1951, she emigrated to the United States and built a new life with strength and determination. Trained as a seamstress, she worked in the trade for over four decades. Her hands crafted not only beautiful garments, but a life filled with devotion and generosity.
Her home was immaculate — a reflection of her pride in homemaking — and her garden, always bursting with flowers, brought her endless joy. She had two beloved parakeets, Chichika and Nektarios, who brought her great joy. She often said they would begin chirping the moment they heard her approaching, as if welcoming her home. One of the great highlights of her life was being baptized in the Jordan River in Jerusalem, a sacred moment for someone deeply rooted in her Greek Orthodox faith.
Soultana held deep affection for her aunts, uncles, and cousins. She loved the beach and visiting the casinos in Atlantic City with them often. She was a doting aunt who adored her nieces and nephews and was equally adored in return. Her love was unwavering, her laughter infectious, and her presence unforgettable. A devoted member of the Pan-Macedonian Association, she took great pride in her Greek heritage and contributed actively to the organization's mission. Her efforts helped preserve and celebrate the culture and traditions of her beloved Macedonia.
She is survived by her sister Vasilike (Kosmas), as well as her devoted nephews Evangelos (Delia) and Stefanos and cherished nieces Evanthia (the late Severio) and Evangelia (William) who brought her great pride and joy. She is also survived by several beloved cousins.
Soultana is pre-deceased by her father (Thomas), mother (Evanthia), step-mother (Evanthia), husband (Anastasios), brother (Athanasios), sister-in-law (Sofia) and several treasured aunts, uncles and cousins.
“Suzy/Τάνα” will be remembered as a woman of quiet strength, deep faith, and generous heart — a true survivor who never lost her warmth or her humor. Αιωνία της η μνήμη. May her memory be eternal.
Friends and family are welcome to attend her viewing form 10am to 11am Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 229 Powell Ln. Upper Darby, Pa 19082.
