Stavros “Steve” Kalisperis, aged 77, of Berwyn, PA passed away on 5/19/2021, one week after his 77th Birthday. He is survived by his beloved and dedicated wife Maria, his two children and their spouses Andreas (Faithe) and Lisa (Kevin), and his pride and joy, six grandchildren, Eleni, Stavros, James, Jacob, Nikoletta, and Eirini.
Stavros was born on May 12, 1944, in a farming village known as Mesa Didima, on the Greek Island of Chios. Stavros was the oldest of three boys (Costa, and Isadore), and was thrust into providing for his family at age 9 when his Father passed away. Upon his Father’s passing, Stavros, while fighting for possession of the family’s donkey from a selfish and narrow-minded villager, learned at an early age how to be strong willed, a trait that would benefit him later in life. It was his wife Maria and his strong will that helped him defeat Cancer in 2018, and survive a near death/crippling automobile accident in 1981.
He immigrated to the United States in 1968. Like many immigrants, Stavros lived the American dream, starting off from the bottom and working his way up to success. From scrubbing dishes in a restaurant to co-founding a company that would ultimately be bought by a Fortune 500 Corporation, Stavros’ 2nd passion in life after his family was work. Whether it was the pizza shop, or the factory, Stavros was admired and loved by his partners, vendors, customers, and employees.
Stavros greatest achievement in life was being a dedicated Papou. He was a doting, loving and active Grandfather. With profound joy, he attended all his grandchildren’s activities whether they were practices, games, recitals, or school events. He jumped at any opportunity to babysit or spend time with the grandchildren, and would often cut vacation time short to spend more time with them. God signaled his approval of Stavros’ job as a Papou by delivering his last grandchild on his birthday.
His celebration of life will occur on Thursday May 27, 2021 with visiting hours from 10:00am-11:30am and funeral service to follow thereafter, at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 35 N. Malin Road, Broomall, PA. Interment at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill PA.
