Vasiliki Kitsos was born on January 21, 1940 in Megalo Peristeri, Greece. Vasiliki passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 22, 2020. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
She and her loving husband Ilias were married in the summer of 1962 and had their only child, their son Vasili in 1964. Early on, the young couple made the heart wrenching decision to leave their son in the care of their parents to find work in Germany. After several years, they returned to Greece and announced that their little family will continue to the United States. Leaving their parents and many siblings behind, in 1973 they arrived in New York and continued to pursue the American Dream. They finally settled in Philadelphia where they successfully opened and operated their very own business for many years.
Throughout the years, their son along with his wife, Kiki, blessed her with four beautiful granddaughters, Maria(passed 1995), Georgia, Eleni and Katerina. Her granddaughters thrived with Yiayia by their side.
Vasiliki and Ilias retired in 2015. Together they enjoyed many trips to Greece and visited with family and friends. Here at home, Vasiliki, enjoyed tending to her garden and always believed the more fasolia she grew the better.
She lived a full and joyous life. Vasiliki was well known for her contagious laughter and caring nature. She made sure that when you visited, you enjoyed her cooking and her specialty the “Blatsarina”.
She was loved by many and will be missed by all. Rest in Peace Yiayia, your memory will be eternal. KALO PARADESO.
Her funeral service will be 12 noon Thursday, 10-29-2020, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 229 Powell Rd. Upper Darby, Pa 19082. Calling hour starting at 11am in the church. Due to church practice in at this time, Maskes must be worn and social distancing be practiced. Interment will follow funeral service in Fernwood Cemetery.
