On April 29, 2020 we lost our dear mother and yiayia, Paraskevi “Voula” Vassilakos.
Voula was born February 10, 1940 to Vasilios and Georgia Chrisomalis in Sparta, Greece. She was the youngest of 5 children. She came to Toronto, Ontario, Canada as a teenager with her sisters and brother and then married Peter Vassilakos. Together with their 2 children they later moved to the Philadelphia area where they enjoyed a wonderful life with their family, friends and the extended Greek communities of St. Luke’s and later St. George Greek Orthodox churches.
Voula was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian who spent many years volunteering with the Philoptochos. She loved to travel, cook, and bake and was well known for her fabulous spanakopita. She adored her family and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was a lovely, sweet woman who was known as everyone’s yiayia. She will always be remembered for her kindness, and will be greatly missed.
Voula is survived by her daughter, Denise Lessik (Tom Lessik), son, Dino Vassilakos (Mary Vassilakos), and her five grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Funeral Services are private, due to the current situation we are all faced with.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Media, PA.
