Zarmine Soltanian Obituary

Zarmine “Zam” Soltanian passed away peacefully on February 25, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert Soltanian, loving mother of Zachary, Mary (Jeff) Herdeg and Albert Jr. (Lorna); loving grandmother of Tyler (Karina), Christopher, Lindsey and Nicholas.  She was also survived by sisters Satig (Loren) and Margie (Hrayr), sister-in law Arax, cousin Satig (Mike) and her “khnami” (inlaw) Pat. She is predeceased by her brother Paul and sister Lucy (Earl). She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Zam was born on January 27th 1935 in Mexico City, Mexico to Armenian Genocide survivors Garabed and Mariam Kendikian.  In 1945 her family moved to the United States. They settled in the Philadelphia area.  At the age of 17, she met her first and only love Albert Soltanian. They were married a few years later on Feb 13th, 1955.  Over the next many years her family grew by adding Zach, Mary and Albert Jr..  They moved from Upper Darby, PA to Lutherville, MD and finally to Newtown Square, PA. In the mid eighties, with the support of her brother Paul, Zam started a manufacturing company making rubber crutch tips and toilet flappers. Zam was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She was affectionately known by her grandchildren as Memom. She was also known as Zambo and occasionally as Carmine.

Zam was a vibrant part of the Armenian community and a long time member of the ladies guild. She built deep, long lasting relationships with many friends.  While family always came first, a card game or party with her friends came in a very close second.  She would always be the first to get up & dance. She understood the importance of making sure everyone had a good time.  In her last few years Zam and her son Zach lived with family, surrounded by plenty of love and activity.

Family and friends are invited to her calling hour from 10-11am and Funeral at 11am on Friday, March, 4 2022, at St. Gregory’s Armenian Apostolic Church, 8701 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA. 19128.
