If you are looking to read an obituary, well, I’m sorry to disappoint you.
This is a Celebration of the life of Betty Sarikianos of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.
Eighty-five years young, Betty lived her life independently in her home, strong and with a mind like a steel trap. She remembered EVERYRHING! Birthdays, Anniversary’s, Dates, Times and Places.
Betty was a devoted and dedicated, loyal and loving daughter to her parents, addressing all of their needs. She was selfless.
Betty’s gentile and loving smile lit up every room she entered, and you couldn’t help but smile along with her.
She lived her life according to the Golden Rule. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. This is not to say that she was a pushover, quite the contrary. Sharper than a tack, she was soft spoken unless she really wanted to get her point across. We would often joke about who had the harder head, an Italian or a Greek. Come to think of it we really never figured that one out.
Betty had a successful career with a prestigious Philadelphia engineering firm before retiring. Always wanting to be active Betty looked for a second career. She found a second home with Upper Darby Township. For sixteen years Betty worked for the Department of Engineering. She was the time keeper, long before the luxury of computers. Everything was done by hand and with mental sharpness. Her work was flawless, meticulous. She kept track of everything for the largest department in the Township. She treated each and every one of her coworkers as family. The crew workers were “her guys” and she was “their Betty”. Always loved and respected.
Loving, kind, considerate, thoughtful, caring, concerned, fun loving, gentle, quick wit, soft spoken, loyal, dedicated, independent, strong, faithful, sharp, meticulous, flawless, selfless, peaceful and respectful. These are just a few of Betty’s fine qualities. There are so many more, more than I can mention. I kind of think you get it. She was a classic lady, a lovely woman, in every way.
Her kind and caring nature drew people to her and those of us who were blessed to have her in our lives are grateful.
Betty leaves behind many people who loved her, family and friends.
She lived a full life, filled with love and laughter. I know as God greeted Betty, He said, welcome my servant in whom I am well pleased.
Isn’t it wonderful we have one more star in the sky to marvel at? It’s Betty’s star!
