Maria Agatsiotis Obituary

Maria Agatsiotis, 92, passed away peacefully on October 1st, 2019. Born on May 10th, 1927 in Katafygio, Kozani, Greece, she was the eldest of 5 children to Argyrios and Eleni Karras. After the war they moved to Katerini, Greece where she met and married her beloved husband, Antonios Agatsiotis in 1951. Together, they had 3 children, Anastasia (Charalambos), George (Fotini), and Argyrios (Robin). In 1970, Maria came to The United States of America on her own to establish a home here in Upper Darby, PA, in order for her family to join her, in hopes for a better future. Maria was one of the top seamstress’ at HR Freemans and Sons, where she retired after over 15 years of dedicated work. Other than the immense love she had for her Children, her pride and joy were her 8 Grandchildren, Vasilios, Elizabeth(Dimitrios), Maria, Antonios, Eleni- Nektaria, Madeline(Josh), Michael, Gabriel and 3 Great Grandchildren, Charalambos, Lukas, and Christos. Apart from raising them, she loved to spoil them, cook for them and she would always talk them up and brag about their many accomplishments in life, she would even carry a small brag book with pictures to show them off to all her friends. Her love and dedication to her church was so great. Everyone knew her as “The Lady with the white hair” sitting in the 4th row on the left hand side of church, making loukoumades at the Greek Festival, making pites all year long, glued to her sowing machine making Greek costumes for the dance groups, helping with the senior citizen lunch program and always supporting the St. Demetrios family. Her big smile, contagious laugh and her beautiful legacy will live on forever. May her memory be eternal.
