Dear Carolyn, Elena, Stephen and Harry,
I am so sorry for the delay in this note but I just heard the terribly sad news of John's passing.
You all probably don't remember me but I worked for your dad at Dew Kiss Takeout back in the 70s and 80s. It was my very first job and few people forget their first job, so I remember you all very well. :)
John taught me the value of hard work and of taking pride in the product you present. He taught me recipes and how to cook. John's belief that "the customer is always right" has resonated with me throughout many different positions that I've held throughout the years. He very literally made a difference in my life.
I loved your dad like family....in many respects, all those 3-7pm afterschool shifts I spent at Dew-Kiss provided the upbringing I was lacking at home.
He was a mentor, an educator; an employer and a friend. I deeply respected him and I am grateful for the things he taught me those years I worked for him.
I cried when I heard of his passing. I am so sorry for your loss. Some people are taken too soon.
I hope it comforts you in some small way to know that he touched my life in a very positive way and I will always be grateful that I knew him and all of you.
Please know that I am praying for peace for your family.
Very best wishes and much love
Laura (Ciastko) Tompkins
